Movie Analysis: The Prestige Deception: The importance of Deception in Magic, and also its importance in certain movies Deception, what is it? According to dictionary.com, deception is: â€Å"to mislead by a false appearance or statement.† By this definition, deception is often used in many movies. However, deception is used quite often in The Prestige. We see this in many forms, from the main characters to the simple things like the magic tricks, but why is deception so important in magic and movies. To start, deception is a building block of magic. Deception is used to trick the viewer in believing that what they are seeing is magic. Which of course is used in actual magic and The Prestige. The Prestige has a lot of deception, not only in†¦show more content†¦This showed great deception because he was able to not only able to make the audience believe but also other magicians, which means that either he was a genius or the deception he played off was great. However, without the machine, this t rick would not have the same impact because the machine adds this flare like no other trick; but in reality, it is the ultimate deception. What Angier did was a common thing used in the world of magic but elevated to the next level. His use of misdirection was very deceptive and often used in magic. Examples of tricks that use misdirection are most card tricks because the magician most of the time is distracting you from noting his hand movements and breaks in the deck. To conclude, deception is used a lot in magic. It is very important in magic because it is used to either make for a great prestige, or it is used to ensure the audience that the trick is magic. Deception is used throughout many movies, The Prestige is no exception. It is shown throughout the movie. An example is when Angier dresses up as an audience member to Borden’s magic show. He deceives himself as an audience member then is able to shoot Borden, which adds more depth to the plot because we the audience d o not see this coming, therefore adding more surprises and action to the movie. However, the biggest deception we the viewers don’t see is Borden’s Twin (unless you paid close attention to the movie).
